Miami, Get Ready. The Bahamas will Rival Vegas.
Caesar’s Resort & Casino, Harrahs Entertainment and Starwood Resorts, and a 4.9 billion dollar Versailles-inspired 4,500 room resort. Sounds like Vegas, but it isn’t. It’s the Bahamas. The article references over 6.5 billion dollars worth of new development. The author even goes so far as to claim that the activity is “expected to rival Las Vegas with lavish shows and glamorous hotels as soon as 2010.” This is serious folks—especially when it’s so close to Miami. Think about the benefits that Vegas’ proximity affords Southern Californians. Bimini is just 46 miles from the South Florida coast. The Bahamas is getting systematically dotted with “mega-resorts”. The Atlantis resort is undergoing a major expansion. Stanley Levine, who was “responsible for the revamp of Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road, the preservation of the Art Deco District, founding chairman of the Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council, and secretary/trustee of the $500-Million new Performing Arts Center” is helping mastermind new development in Bimini. This boom is being felt all over the Bahamas and parts of the Island nation are emerging as a sort of Vegas in the tropics. Miami only stands to benefit.
